This year’s 2025 Lexus Pipe Pro was full of early alarms, wet camera bags, and a whole lot of waiting around. I drove up to the North Shore every morning for the 7:30 am call, only to find out a bunch of times that the comp was off for the day because of weather or inconsistent waves. Some mornings were pouring rain, others were sunny but flat. It was one of those weeks where you just had to be patient and hope the ocean showed up—and eventually, it did.
I was up at 5am every day, driving from town to make it in time for the 7:30am call. Most mornings, I’d kill time by grabbing a Banzai Bowl and walking the beach while everyone waited to hear if the comp was actually running. My friends would meet me on the beach later in the afternoon with snacks and cold drinks. I honestly love those slow beach days. Just laying out, tanning, catching up, and people-watching between heats. Even when nothing was happening in the water, it was still a good time.

When it did run though, it was worth it. Barron Mamiya took the win for the men’s division.. He looked locked in the whole event and pulled through in some heavy heats. On the women’s side, Tyler Wright took the title, with Caitlin Simmers right behind her. Both finals were fun to shoot—solid conditions and tons of energy on the beach. Last time I was at a Pipe Pro competition, I watched Kelly Slater win it in 2022, which was wild in its own right. Cant wait for next years competition!
