Behind The Lens

I grew up in the cold winters of New York, but my love for the ocean eventually led me to Hawaii. I’m currently studying at Hawaii Pacific University and will soon be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. While my studies have helped me develop a strong foundation in storytelling and media, my true passion lies behind the camera. Photography became a part of my life when COVID hit—I bought my first camera and started out capturing fast-paced sports moments.

Over time, my focus expanded to portraits and landscapes, allowing me to explore the beauty of people, nature, and the world around me. Traveling has also played a big role in my photography journey, giving me the opportunity to experience different cultures and perspectives. One of my most memorable trips was to Japan, where I immersed myself in photography, capturing everything from the country’s rich history to its breathtaking landscapes.

My deep connection to the ocean is what inspired the name Moana Mae Photography—“Moana” means ocean in Hawaiian, and “Mae” is my middle name. The ocean has always been a source of peace and inspiration for me, and I strive to reflect that in my photography. Whether it’s crashing waves, golden sunsets, or candid moments between people, I aim to capture the beauty and emotion in every shot.

When I’m not behind the lens, I love spending time with my dog, Zuma, who’s always ready for the next adventure. Whether we’re exploring new places or simply enjoying the ocean breeze, I’m constantly seeking inspiration in the world around me. Photography isn’t just a job for me—it’s a way of seeing and appreciating life, and I can’t wait to share that passion with you.
